The choice by the multinational mining organization, PT Vale Indonesia to designate Febriany Eddy as CEO in 2021, is another step towards women in leadership roles, especially in the mining industry which is mostly dominated by men.
Febriany Eddy is the CEO of PT Vale Indonesia who was officially elected at the 2021 General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS). Born in Palembang, Febriany Eddy, who is familiarly called Febri, has worked for almost 14 years at the mining company. Febri is a graduate of the Bachelor of Economics at the University of Indonesia. She also holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management and National University of Singapore.
Febri's early career began while working in the financial industry. Febri has worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Jakarta for 5.5 years and in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for 1.5 years. Febri also served as Vale Indonesia’s Project Financing Supervision and Financial Evaluation Manager for 3 years.
In addition, Febri has also served at Vale Base Metals Asia Pacific and Africa regional office based in Brisbane, Australia for 2.5 years. While working there, Febri was responsible for Vale Base Metals operations in Indonesia, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Africa.
Before taking on the CEO position, Febri served as CFO of Vale Indonesia in the 2018-2019 period and served as Deputy CEO for 2 years before finally moving up to become CEO and President Director.
With her work in the financial and mining industries, Febri won several awards including being included in the Top 25 Most Influential Women in Treasury in Asia Pacific in 2015 and being selected as Asia's Top Sustainability Superwomen in 2019. She also made it into Forbes Asia's Power Businesswomen 2022 list with 19 others.
Febri is a figure who also actively advocates for equality, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability through various forums, such as Women in Mining & Energy (WIME), and Indonesia Business Council for Women Empowerment (IBCWE).
From Febriany Eddy we can learn that the title 'woman' is not a barrier to achieving the highest possible career. Her story breaks the stigma that women can also be leaders and that men and women have equal employment opportunities.
