3 Autobiography about Women's Life Journey Finding Their Identity and Peace

by: Asti Hayan Educated  by Tara Westover “To admit uncertainty is to admit to weakness, to powerlessness, and to believe in yourself despite both. It is a frailty, but in this frailty there is a strength: the conviction to live in your own mind, and not in someone else’s.” Educated is a memoir about the struggle for self-discovery. Tara was raised in a survivalist family who didn't believe in the establishment including the government, health and education system. She never went to school nor hospital until she turned 17. Tara educated herself and she taught herself enough to get into Brigham Young University. Her upbringing coming from a particularly unusual family brought her to see education as a great mechanism of self-invention. T he Girl Who Smiled Beads: A Story of War and What Comes After  by Clemantine Wamariya and Elizabeth Weil “Often adults said to me, “You’re so strong, you’re so brave.” But I didn’t want to be strong, I didn’t want to be brave. I wanted a fr...

Are You Self-Sabotaging?

Have you ever thought to yourself that you’re not deserving of something? Perhaps good grades, a job offer, or even a promotion? Or maybe, when something good goes your way, you become skeptical and suspect that it’s too good to be true. If yes, then you are showing signs of self-sabotage. Self-sabotage is a common phenomenon, it happens to us all. Self-sabotage is when we consciously or unconsciously disrupt our success and well-being – mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, or even spiritually. Naturally, self-sabotage is a defense mechanism. Our brains are wired to avoid taking risks or doing something uncomfortable. When we step out of our comfort zone, a signal in our brain sends a warning to our bodies that we may be in danger or in a difficult situation. This signaling might not be able to differentiate what kind of discomfort we’re facing – whether being challenged to a new role in our work or running away from danger, so we run away from it altogether. For some peo...

Confessing the Emotions

by: Endah Pramesti We were created as human beings with thoughts and emotions, so we are sentient beings. Each of us must have felt sad, happy, angry, and so on as a form of emotion that arises. A fun fact is that we will always need a space to vent all the emotions that arise, we usually call it a coping mechanism. Well, everyone's coping mechanism certainly varies, the most extreme is to endanger yourself in order to feel safe. The emotions themselves are either positive or negative, and these are mostly formed by the environment around us, influencing our thoughts. Therefore, it is very important to be able to control them. You really need to know that in this world there are things that we can control, and things that are beyond our control. We just need to accept and be aware of these emotions, because they are there to be felt, and also what we need to stay away from is thinking about what people think about us. If you care about what others think, you will always depend on...

Demotivation and How to Overcome It!

by: Aribah Shafa           Have you ever felt you have literally zero motivation to do anything, or lost your enthusiasm for doing something you used to love? Well, what you experienced or even still experiencing may be demotivation. Feeling demotivated, restless, and anxious is not pleasant. It can make it more difficult for you to work, to be creative and even to feel good about yourself and the things around you. One of the causes of demotivation may be because you feel you can’t do something optimally or can also be caused by physical, mental, or emotional fatigue due to excessive stress. However, it should be noted that each person has a different root of lack of motivation. It is important to identify the cause of our demotivation for you to be able to address it and reduce the feelings of restlessness. Some signs that you may be demotivated that you need to know include: Isolating yourself from the environment When someone is demotivated, they have n...

Self-Abandonment: A Toxic Behaviour You Need to Stop, Now!

by: Asti Hayan Have you ever felt the need to say "yes" to everything and to always please others? Or do you easily fall under others' influence and cannot set your own boundaries? Sadly, many people fall into this pattern, and it is called self-abandonment.  Self-abandonment means that you reject or suppress your own emotion and ignore part of yourself while overvaluing others' opinions . Self-abandonment is a very toxic behavior that sometimes we do unconsciously.  Some of the signs of self-abandonment are:  1. People-pleasing 2. Irrational perfectionism 3. Feel small around others 4. Constant overthinking 5. Lack of boundaries 6. Conceal who you really are When you do those things above, it means you have abandoned yourself. You might even shape-shift into someone you are not. It might feel easy at first, but when you do this continuously, you will exhaust yourself as you play a role that isn't yours. Self-abandonment is a learned behavior. Thus, with enough...

The Law of Attraction Is Way More Than Just Positive Thinking

by: Ilma Rosyidah The word manifestation is now massively used by many to claim a certain energy, picture of success, or life achievement. Manifestation is closely related to the term “Law of Attraction” which generally means controlling the energy of your thoughts to attract specific results into reality. It signifies that your positive thoughts will bring positive results and vice versa. In some ways, you might doubt that your belief system can really make changes in your life. But this law of attraction comes up with reasonable concepts and ways to adopt it in your life. If you are dealing with some kind of unhelpful thoughts that drag you to be pessimistic, anxious, and overthink, you should consider manifestation or the law of attraction as a way to get better. Have you ever been told by the elders to not say something bad and be careful of everything you say because the universe could make it come true? A similar concept is applied in the law of attraction. Positive thinking attr...

Learning From Your Mistakes

by: Beth Victoria Suwito  Have you ever made a mistake? If you have, then welcome to the club. Everyone has made mistakes because we are all just humans who make mistakes. Mistakes are simply a part of everyone’s daily routines. It’s a normal thing.  That’s why you shouldn’t dwell on the mistakes you’ve made. Regretting things and feeling sorry for yourself won’t do much. What you have to do is learn from them. Treat those mistakes like a lesson. Don’t beat yourself up over a small mistake. In order to grow, you have to learn from them.  Another thing is that you should also be patient with other people’s mistakes. Remember that it’s a human thing. People can’t be perfect. Everyone is learning. That’s why you should be patient with them.  Mistakes are just life’s little pebbles. You can stumble across them and you can trip from them. It’s not a huge boulder that’ll stop you from reaching your dreams. It’s a small mishap that could give you a valuable lesson.  Do...

Be Yourself and Stay Unique

by: Nala Zakina Being a woman born in a patriarchal environment is not easy. But that's not a reason to give up and give in to the situation. We must have strong internal and external motivation for adjustment. We are not able to control external factors or the environment around us. But we can control ourselves in responding to it. Those who have a 'why' to live, can endure almost any 'how'.              - Imaz   When we are able to accept ourselves as a whole, we will not be afraid to support ourselves. It doesn't matter who goes. Don't expect empathy from others. And it doesn't matter if they like us or don't like us. Because we just enjoy life and fall in love with what we do every day. Stay the best version of yourself and don't compete with anyone. Now is not the time to compare. We are fully aware that weaknesses and strengths are inherent in humans. Therefore, the best focus is not on the shortcomings that we cannot change, but on the...

Stress Won't Make You Sick

by: Joan Ivanka Imagine a situation in which your fight or flight response is triggered. Let’s say you’re seriously scared of bugs and a big one just falls on your hand in the middle of a conversation.  Your adrenaline would spike, and your heart would begin to race. You might scream and try to shake it off, or you migh t tense up and pray it falls off by itself. In any case, the moment you saw the bug land on you, your brain released the hormone cortisol, signaling the body to take immediate action - fight, flee, or freeze. In other words, the cortisol hormone prepares your body to act quickly in response to threats. This is why it is called the fear/stress hormone. There are times when stress can be helpful. It gives you a burst of energy when you need it to get things done. But, like with all good things, there is such a thing as too much. We've all at least heard one doctor say "stress makes you sick." And it is usually true. In fact, stress has been linked to sever...

Motivation is Overrated!

by: Cindy Aurelia The mountain is you, I know it’s very true. Have you ever wondered how some of your favorite role models or actresses gain their motivation? Through the lens of social media, it may seem like they own a future-perfect life that everyone ever dreamed of. Multiple tiered houses, catching private jets, and front-line designer items.  Sometimes, we caught ourselves comparing our lives with theirs. We might wonder, “Why can’t I be the same?” or wish we were as privileged as them.  A quote by Steve Furtick was a powerful reminder for us, “The reason we struggle with insecurity is that we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”  We need to realize most of the time, the “life” they’re showing was only tiny bits of highlights of their life. Deep inside, they also have their struggles, breakdowns, and challenges that they must overcome. It’s just they didn’t show everything on the camera.  With this, we gather a new question. “How ...

Finding the Freedom in Feeling Left Behind

by: Ilma Rosyidah Everyone has their own timeline. But the feeling of being left behind becomes uncontrollable when everyone else seems to be reaching another stage in life while you still don’t know what to do. Feeling left behind in some ways can lead you to lose your freedom.    The days go by so fast before you might even notice your New Year’s resolutions still showing no progress. At the same time, the idea of breaking the distance through technology makes you easily exposed to everybody’s life, even the ones you don't really know. You see beautiful pictures and various achievements that other people have. Then when you look in the mirror, you start to second guess your worth. “Mirror mirror on the wall, I guess I am worse than everyone else because they are doing better in life ,” you might hear.  I think I was in yesterday 'Cause everybody walks too fast -My Time, by Jungkook BTS- Your friend is attending college while reality is holding you back to do the s...
